How to Stop Overeating

Overeating was one of my biggest problems before i started my 50 pound weight loss journey. The thing is, i wasn't exactly eating the most unhealthy foods such as McDonalds, KFC, chocolate, donuts or whatever else. My problem was i was just eating TOO MUCH, especially certain food groups such as carbohydrates.

This was the first hurdle i overcame and trust me, it was NOT easy. Here are my top tips for avoiding overeating:

  1. Drink water-
I'm sure you've heard this before and if you haven't, you're hearing it now! Water is great for a lot of things. Sometimes when we think we're hungry, we're actually thirsty! So if you've just eaten yet you still feel hungry enough to eat more, Drink up! Make sure you have one glass before your meal, another during the meal and one after your meal. By the end you would have had three glasses of water to drink and you'll feel full!
  2. Snack-
That's right! you can snack but it depends on what you're snacking on. To avoid that feeling of uncontrollable hunger make sure you're snacking throughout the day on things like fruit, veggies and nuts. There's so much you can do to keep snacking fun! for example one of my favourites, Banana, Organic all natural peanut butter, Greek yogurt and granola:

Snack: Greek yogurt, Granola, Banana and Organic Peanut Butter.
  3.  Keep yourself busy-
Its no secret that most of us end up overeating out of pure boredom. The best way to avoid this is to keep yourself busy. Write up To-do lists so that you always have something to do. This will not only help you stop overeating but you will feel GREAT for having gotten things done.
  4. Know your portion sizes-
Its SO important to know what your portion sizes should be. You can do this by eating on a smaller plate which will trick your mind into thinking you're full after you've finished your meal. It may come as a bit of a shock how much you should really be eating but you will soon get used to this.

  5. Do Not Restrict-
Overeating can often be a result of being too strict on yourself. You have to find a good balance between eating healthy and treating yourself. You can keep it 80/20 which basically just means, 80% healthy and 20% of the time you can treat yourself. Or 90/10. Its up to you! just don't restrict! the pressure and stress will only lead to overeating in the long run.

I hope these tips help you stay on track but remember, these are just tips, YOU need to put in the work and put these into action.

Stay healthy
